Comments: St. Paul begins with examples of Wilderness experience. He starts with Crossing of the Red Sea. Then he follows up with reminding them of idolatry by the Golden Calf (v. 7 – Exodus 32:6). And concludes with the reference to the Bronze Serpent incident (Numbers 21:4-9). All of these happened to them – it is a historic reality. At the same time, the apostle uses these examples to show how we should interpret the Scriptures seeing the past as a lesson for our growth.
Part I.
Teaching on the Lord's Supper – symbolic reading, transubstantiation, or “in. with, and under.”
Dating of the letter and the Gospel of Luke.
Husband and wife relationship. Head coverings...
Part II. At this point St. Paul obviously introduces another topic – spiritual gifts (12:1-3). Note that the discussion as a whole revolves around “speaking in the Spirit” and confessing Jesus. He will come back to it in the first part of chapter 14.
